In their last match of the regular season, The Fire defeated the Ave Maria University Gyrenes 2-1. This victory also fell on both Homecoming weekend and Senior Night for men's soccer.
Seniors Jorge Navarrete, Jonathan Jimenez, Kendall Crouse and Luke Marchesani were all recognized for their contributions to men's soccer program.
Top scorer Jake Van Der Luit struck first for the Fire, scoring in the 18th minute of play. He was assisted by Craig Barker and James Paylor. This marked Van Der Luit's 13th goal of the season. Jonathan Jimenez scored next for the Fire in the 36th minute, assisted by Luke Marchesani.
Except for a Gyrene penalty kick early in the second half that gave Ave Maria a spark of life, the remainder of the match consisted of both teams fighting to get close to others goals.
The Fire have secured a first-round bye in The Sun Conference Tournament, and will host a semifinal match as the regular season runner-up.
