HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - Ninety minutes of regulation did not suffice during tonight's soccer match between the Southeastern University Fire and the SCAD Bees. A great deal of passion was displayed on the pitch as the teams went back and forth physically and emotionally all night. The Fire required an extra five minutes to sting the Bees and walk away with a 3-2 victory.
The Bees got off to a vigorous start scoring first in the fifth minute of the match. Less than 45 seconds later, the Fire answered right back with a goal of their own off the foot of
Tauan Salgado. SCAD committed a foul in the box to set up the Salgado penalty kick, and Salgado delivered the equalizer.
Following Salgado's goal, the teams were deadlocked for 23 minutes. SCAD's Tom Berry broke the stalemate with a strike to the back of the net to make it 2-1. In the mere minutes before halftime, Southeastern answered yet again with a header by
Connor Bezet, his first of the season.
During the second half, both teams had ample opportunities to produce, but neither side saw the fruit of their labor.
A crucial foul by the Bees just outside the box provided an opportunity for game-ending heroics in the 95th minute.
Gustavo Rodrigues launched a laser over the wall that found the upper 90 to send the Fire home victorious.
Overall, both clubs competed fiercely in tonight's Sun Conference matchup. Between the two teams, 24 fouls were committed, and six yellow cards were dealt (SEU-1, SCAD-5).
Tonight's win makes back-to-back victories for the Fire. The Fire will look to continue their win streak against Montreat College in Lakeland on Monday, October 9th.
