NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - An offensive onslaught aided in the Fire men's soccer victory over Florida Memorial this afternoon. The Fire's 5-3 win pushed the team over the .500 mark for the season and improved their Sun Conference record to 4-2-1.
Within the first 25 minutes of the contest the Fire amassed three unanswered goals.
Gustavo Rodrigues was the Fire's catalyst finding the back of the net off of the
Adolfo Peraza assist early in the game.
Five minutes later, in the ninth minute, Rodrigues recorded his third point of the contest assisting in the
Jonathan Jimenez goal. Shortly after, Pereza would extend the lead to 3-0 Fire with his fourth goal of the season.
When the game appeared to be a one sided affair favoring Southeastern, Florida Memorial fought their way back into the match with a goal in the 34th minute. However, the Fire would answer right back with a tally of their own.
Tauan Salgado rattled the cage just before halftime to move the score to 4-1 Fire.
Coming out of halftime, the Lions formulated a new game plan that was paying dividends. Luis Martinez-Flores and Giancarlo Degregoria netted goals to bring the match within one.
As the intensity of the match heightened,
Tyler Gay iced the game with his second goal of the season, solidifying the 5-3 victory for the Fire.
The Fire are getting red hot winning five of their last six contests. Southeastern will square off against Thomas University at home on October 25th.
