Men’s Soccer Bows Out of NAIA National Tourney

DELRAY BEACH, Fla.—One untimely mistake in the second half ended up concluding the 2015 Southeastern University men's soccer season in the NAIA National Tournament second round.

Indiana Wesleyan (16-5-1) took advantage of a defensive miscue in the 58th minute of play to score the lone goal of the contest, handing the Fire a 1-0 loss.

Southeastern (16-5) was limited to just six total shots and just two on goal.

"Indiana Wesleyan is a great team, and to their credit, produced a goal," said coach Clay Roberts. "I think the difference for us was we came out the most flat we came out this season. It's a disappointing loss, but our guys learned a valuable lesson that there's no wasted minutes in a national tournament game."

It looked as if the Fire scored the equalizing goal in the 81st minute on a ball from Gerritson Craane, but Jake Van Der Luit was whistled offsides, negating the score.

Defensively, the Fire faced 17 shots, five of which were on goal and four saved by Jorge Navarrete.

"It was a phenomenal year for us, and it was a year of first," said Roberts "I'm very proud of my team, and these guys have stepped up to the challenges we've put in front of them, and they found ways to win games."
