LAKELAND, Fla. – Two Southeastern University men's soccer players have signed professional contracts to continue their playing careers upon graduation. Seniors
Gerritson Craane and
Pedro Ivo Dias signed with the Florida Tropics of the Major Arena Soccer League.
"Pedro and Gerritson have developed a lot in the last couple years. So for them to be rewarded with the ability to continue playing and to be able to continue coaching them is fantastic," shared Head Coach
Clay Roberts, who coaches both the Fire and the Tropics.
Ivo Dias netted 22 goals and recorded 12 assists during his three year playing career at SEU. The Rio de Janeiro native was also named 2015 Sun Conference Player of the Year, a First Team All-Conference selection his junior and senior seasons, and a two-time NAIA All-American Honorable Mention.
"This is a very good team (Tropics) with some very good players. I am excited to grow and learn from them about indoor soccer," remarked Ivo Dias.
Craane played in 70 games, scored 23 goals, and had 18 assists during his four year playing career at Southeastern. The Bonaire native was an Honorable Mention All- Conference selection his sophomore year, Second Team his junior year, and earned First Team honors his senior season.
"It is awesome to have this opportunity. It has always been my dream to play soccer at the next level," commented Craane.
This marks the first time in program history that any SEU men's soccer players have signed professional contracts.
"To have players come through the program and sign a pro contract not only speaks to the development of the program but to the caliber of the players coming through the program," said Coach Roberts.
