ATLANTA, Ga.—Former Southeastern University golfer Matt Parziale will be among the field of the top golfers in the world at Shinnecock Hills for the U.S. Open.
Parziale won the U.S. Mid-Amateur at Capital City Golf Club's Crabapple Course on Friday.
With the victory comes a full exemption into the next U.S. Open, and a likely invitation to the Masters, the Robert T. Jones Jr. Memorial Trophy and will be exempt into the next two U.S. Amateurs
Parziale, who calls Brockton, Mass. Home and works as a firefighter, was a three-time NCCAA All-American at Southeastern. As a freshman, he finished fifth at the NCCAA Championship Meet. In 2007, he was the individual medalist, leading the Fire to the national title. He also earned All-America status in 2008, placing 10
th.
The margin of victory by Parziale in the match play final matched the third largest in the history of the tournament, winning 8 and 6 in the 36-hole showdown. The 30-year old shot a 7-under 63 through the first 18 holes, marking the best U.S. Mid-Amateur final since 2001.
The 2018 U.S. Open will be played June 14-17 in Southampton, N.Y.
