LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern University softball coach
Anna Welsh has signed Mariah Dionne (Marengo, Illinois) to a letter of intent to join the Fire in 2016 and continue her academic and athletic careers.
Dionne comes from Marengo Community High School where she pitches. As a pitcher for the past three seasons, Dionne boasts a 67-16 record. She has 716 strikeouts over the last three years. Dionne was named the Big-Northern All-Conference pitcher of the year for her freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons. Her ERA was 1.82 as a sophomore, and she hit .455 with 12 homeruns and 49 RBIs that same season. She was on the 3A All-State team as a sophomore and junior. As a junior, Dionne hit .483 with eight homeruns, 46 RBIs, and 19 doubles.
Dionne also plays for Coach Brad Dennison and the Bartlett Silverhawks 18U travel team and has been an integral part of their success. She comes to Southeastern joining former travel teammates Alex Millett and Stef Guercio.
"We are thrilled that Mariah said yes to coming to Florida," said Welsh. "I know what she is capable of as a softball player and I am so glad I get to have her on my team. She will fit in great with our team and with our Southeastern community."
Dionne is active at her school and her community and is a member of Marengo First Assembly of God. For the past several years, she has been involved in youth group and has served at Speed the Light banquets.
"When visiting campus, I felt secure and welcomed there the campus was beautiful everyone was so loving and friendly," said Dionne. "Chapel was amazing and made me feel like I was at home. I am most excited about getting to meet new people, expanding my learning in a new place, and growing closer to God."
Dionne plans to major in Sports Management. She is the daughter of Bob Dionne and Brenda Dionne and has three older siblings, Elizabeth Dionne (27), Kyle Dionne (26), and Corey Pittman (25). She also has a pit bull, Baylie.
